I've never been a big fan of diet drinks. I don't like the taste, and something about aspartame doesn't bode well with me. I'd rather stick to "natural" sugar. Well, in last month's Prevention magazine, my inhibitions toward diet drinks were justified. A study of 127 people was done, and those that drank diet drinks consistently gained more weight over time than those that drank regular pop. They think it's because people that drink diet drinks tend to justify other bad eating habits because they are drinking diet pop. So, now I won't feel so guilty for drinking my regular pop!

October Air Conditioning
I can't believe we have the air conditioning on in October! That's pretty good. Todays high was 18° - just beautiful.
I remembered today that I really haven't given you a virus update in a while. No news is good news as they say! I had another doctors appointment two weeks ago, and the doctor informed me that my last blood test came back negative for the Parvovirus, and positive for the antibodies! Yahoo! Since the appointment I've also noticed a steady decrease in my joint pain. I am sooooooo thrilled to be rid of that nasty virus.

Thanksgiving Weekend
It was, as Jeremy Hiebert might say, an epic weekend. It all started with Ryan closing the deal on his new business venture on Friday. He is now the owner of Golden Glove Incorporated. A company that manufactures and distributes knit gloves - mostly for industrial purposes. I am so proud of him, and I know he's going to do great!
Friday evening we had supper with my family at Kam Loon's in Morris. We were celebrating my brother Matt's 22nd birthday. Happy 22 years Matty! We then spent the evening playing poker at my parent's place.
On Saturday we slept in, and then got ready for the big wedding bash! We drove out to La Salle, and celebrated together with many friends and family as Greg and Sophie exchanged vows. They had a beautiful ceremony, complete with readings from the Velveteen Rabbit, and the Little Prince. Lunch followed the ceremony, and a great slide show was shown. We spent the rest of the afternoon there, just talking with friends. We then ventured home, took a quick break, and then headed back into the city to the King's Head Pub for more partying. There we were really able to sit and connect with everyone, and enjoy a beer or two as well. The background music of the Rowdymen added to the atmosphere.
Sunday morning we slept in after a late night at the King's Head, and then went to Ryan's parents' place for Thanksgiving dinner. It was an awesome spread of turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing and more. We were all filled to the brim after dinner, and just sat around like lumps.
We were blessed to have another morning to sleep in on Monday, but soon went to work on some chores in the beautiful fall sun. We headed out to Rick & Lori's for lunch, and then the four of us went to the Bomber game.
What a fulfilling weekend. I just can't express how great it was to spend it with family and friends. I felt I was really able to talk to a lot of people that I don't often have a chance to talk to, and it was so nice to connect with others that we hadn't seen in a long time. What a blessing.
Something to be very thankful for indeed.

Last night we had the privilege to host somewhat of a reunion at our place. Ryan's friend Greg is getting married this weekend, and so a few guys have come out for the wedding. In the pic is Ryan (foreground), his brother Steve (left), Greg, Brent and Jeremy. It was a great evening, the guys went out for supper, and then settled back in at our place for a few beers and a lot of laughs.
Heather's Top Ten (Do-able) Halloween Costumes
(this top ten list idea care of Lesa)
10. A Rubix Cube - totally do-able. All you'd need is a big box, construction paper in squares, and string to keep the box up!
9. A Dominoe (not to be confused with a Dominatrix) - Again, totally easy. You'd need two cardboard panels, two pieces of black poster paper, and cut out white dots. String could be used for straps. Awesome.
8. A Shepherd - this one is a classic. It's a classic because it is easy and do-able. All you need is your dad's old bath robe, a towel, a headband and sandles.
7. A Nudist - self-explanatory, totally do-able (if you are daring) and it doesn't cost anything.
6. A Cloud - this one rocks. Pick up an old blue dress from a thrift shop and glue cotton balls all over it.
5. A Pickle - dress all in green, dab a little vinegar under your chin and drink like crazy.
4. A Smurf - dress in white sweat pants, white sneakers, a blue top and wear a white toque and white gloves. If you are ambitious, paint your face blue.
3. Britney Spears - wear anything tight, revealing, or write something obscene on a t-shirt and stuff it with a pillow. Okay, I guess at this point you could just take along a doll or something.
2. An Alien - this one is cool, because you can dress in whatever you want! No one actually knows what an alien looks like.
1. A "Survivor" - find a tubetop, or make one out of an old t-shirt. Wear a bikini top, and some cut-off shorts with runners and no socks. Smear yourself with something "dirty" looking, and let your B.O. go for a couple of days. Oh, and let your hair get really greasy. For extra realisticalness (my own word), don't eat much for a couple of weeks, and carry around a statue - maybe something you got as a souvenir in Belize or something.

Brrrrrr... it's only, like, 6°C here today, with a winter storm warning in effect until tomorrow night! Yuck. For those of you venturing out from warmer climates for Greg and Sophie's wedding this weekend, pack some warm clothes!
Cover the kids' eyes! I know this is disgusting, but this beaver showed up across the street from our place on Friday morning. You would not believe the traffic that stopped to look at this animal! He was HUGE! I wish I had put something next to him for context. He was at least three feet long, and almost two feet across.
