Action Packed Plett Life

Welcome to a day in the lives of our little Plett family...

The knee problems just don't end at our house. My knees have still been terribly uncomfortable, and on Tuesday I had an ultrasound down on the backs of my legs to see if there is anything going on in there. I haven't heard back from the doctor yet, but I am just praying that I get some answers. In the meantime, the Advil bottle and I are getting to know each other better.

And then, with all of the going on, Ryan dislocated his knee last night during his soccer game. It was a late game at 11:00, so I didn't go along, and he busted up his knee right at the end of the game with 20 seconds left. He didn't get home until about 3:30am. So anyway, at least I have someone to hobble with now, but we are a sad sight for sore eyes. You'd think we were a couple in our 90's.

Ryan surprised me with an early Valentine's Day gift this weekend - a plane ticket to Powell River! I leave on February 14th, and I'm there for five days! I can hardly wait to spend a week with four of my most favourite people. Of course, I can't wait to see the new baby - but also Emily, Ang and Steve. It will also be nice to spend some time in slightly milder weather. I've never seen B.C. in the winter, so it will be a new experience all together.

If anyone can give me any words of advice on this, please let me know. For the last five days I have been limping around with the back of my left knee being quite swollen and tender. I can't recall anything that I have physically done to it that could have caused the pull or inflammation. The pain (which is not really pain so much as it is great discomfort) has now started to affect my lower thigh and upper calf. It also seems that the right knee is now beginning to feel the same tenderness, although it is not swollen yet. At night my legs ache, and last night was particularly bad. I hate running to the doctor for these types of things, and I also hate medications. I've allowed myself to pop a couple Advil today, just to make work a little more tolerable. Walking and standing causes a lot of pressure on the backs of my legs. It's very frustrating - I've been icing the area, elevating my legs when I can, and trying to rest them as much as possible. Can anyone help me out? I tried calling the doctor today, but my regular doctor is booked for two weeks, and the other one is on holidays until mid February. I would hate to be like this for another two weeks. Anyway, sorry to cause you the soggy shoulder, I just feel rather helpless at the moment! Internet studies had led me to believe that it is either a Baker's cyst, or a blood clot.

No, baby Plett still has no name. However, in the meantime, here is my 43 Things list...

Auntie Heather has fallen in love... now I have two kiddos to love with all my heart! He just needs a name...

"Baby" Plett was born to Steve and Ang Plett, and big sister Emily, January 13th at 1:17 p.m. He weighed 8 lbs, and is quiet and cute. We can't wait to find out what his name will be, and I will post some pictures as soon as grandma and grandpa Plett have had a chance to see them first.

Okay, Maui vacation trip report... where do I begin? Let's begin with the seven hour flight from Maui to Seattle. We left Seattle on Thursday, December 23 in the late afternoon. As we were flying over the Rockies, I caught this beautiful shot from the plane. After the long journey across the ocean, we arrived at the Kahului airport around dinner time - we were ahead by four hours in Hawaii.

The view from our room was lovely, and from our balcony I could watch gorgeous sunsets (this one is taken from the beach), and often saw whales in the ocean. The first few days were spent mostly on the lawn, tanning, reading, and doing crossword puzzles in newspapers from around the world (the greatest accomplishment being to finish the New Yorks Times one). We spent one afternoon at Makena beach, but we did not go to see the nude side of it! The waves were really nice there, perfect for the boogie-boarders.

One of the highlights of the trip was having a chocolate soufflé at Roy's restaurant with the whole group. I shared one with Margaret, because trying to share one with Ryan is impossible. He eats it in a very particular manner, and it is a serious offence to mess up his method. We also had a cool dessert at Nick's - a restaurant at our hotel.

On another day of exploring, Ryan and I headed to the north shore to catch some surfing. It was a beautiful day, and we had a great time. There are so many beautiful things to see out there, including plants and animal life.

The main highlight of thr trip for me was the helicopter tour we went on. It was fantastic, and my pictures hardly do it justice, but here are a couple of the best ones. This is a shot of the Haleakala crater. This one is taken in a valley at the Wall of Tears. We did some other exploring that day, and found this awesome quilt in a small mountain town. The quilt was not for sale!

There are so many more photos and stories I'd like to include, but I'll end there. Hopefully we can spend some time with you in person and tell you all about it.
