Action Packed Plett Life

Welcome to a day in the lives of our little Plett family...

Ryan and I enjoyed a relaxing, yet busy weekend.  On Friday night we went to see "Harold & Maude" at the Fringe, and totally enjoyed it.  After the show we decided to take in another show by T.J. Dawe, a comedian we saw last year and completely enjoyed.  This year he titled his monologue "The Curse of the Trickster".  It was really good, and we laughed hard.  (Ask Ryan what his favourite line was the next time you talk to him.)

On Saturday we attended a friend's wedding here in Rosenort.  It was a typical wedding, and we had a good time.  Afterwards we had a couple of friends over to veg with us.

Sunday was a relaxing day.  We spent the morning lounging around until it was time to pack up for the beach.  We headed to St. Malo in the early afternoon with my parents and my brother.  We had a great BBQ supper by the beach, and had some ice cream from "Holy Cow" before the ride home.

This week consists of the regular household things we need to get done.  Ryan has scaffolding set up in our stairway, and has completed painting the ceiling, and is now going to tackle the walls.  On Thursday is a Bomber game, and I am hoping to have the day off to do some things in the city.  And then on Saturday we are going to take in more of the Fringe by seeing "One Man Lord of the Rings", which sounds excellent, and the recommendations come strong.  It is also directed by T.J. Dawe, who was mentioned earlier, and so it appears that we have become fans of his work.

'Tis the time of year for Festivals in Winnipeg right now. The Folk Festival just finished up, and now in moves the Fringe. We skipped the Folk Festival this year, mainly due to the price. Had we been able to stay the entire weekend, it would have been fantastic though. However, we will take in the Fringe this year. On Friday we will go to see Harold & Maude, a take on the old 1971 movie. My dear friend Dean Harder is playing Harold, so I'm looking forward to it. He will also be performing with his Improv group - The Crosseyed Rascals - but we may not be able to see both shows. Then next on the list will be Folklorama. I've never gone, but maybe this year we'll take in one or two venues to check it out.

Once again, it was a beautiful and relaxing weekend. On Friday evening we hung out with Terrilee and Brent. We went to Morris for ice cream, and then settled down at their place to watch a movie.

On Saturday we headed into the city around noon and did some garage saling. We didn't have too much luck in finding anything very great, but we did pick up some movies and books. In the afternoon we went to see Farenheit 9/11 - which I could really go on and on about, but not today. It was an informative flick, I enjoyed it. After the movie we spent some time in the mall before heading over to Rick & Lori's for a nice BBQ. Their friends Jeff, Lorna and 18-month-old son Ethan were also there. We had a great time as we always seem to have with them. It was a lovely evening, and we stayed out on the deck for as long as possible until the mosquitos won the war, and we retreated inside to watch a movie.

Sunday was very relaxing. We had lunch with my dad in Morris, and then spent the afternoon in the pool at Frank & Jeanne's. It was lovely. Later in the evening we went into the city with Frank & Jeanne for supper at a nice little seafood restaurant on Corydon. It was another beautiful, warm evening and we enjoyed sitting out on the street.

Today it seems that the clouds are finally moving in, so we might see some thundershowers today. I'm okay with that, because if I'm stuck inside at work at least I know I'm not missing all the good weather!

This weekend Ryan and I had the opportunity to see Angelo Eidse' short film, "Flickering Blue". It was really neat to watch the film knowing that it was written by a friend. It truly is a great piece, and Ryan is hoping to track down a copy of it to purchase on DVD. Lola always puts on a great party as well, right down to putting some of her stellar art up for a door prize. Sadly, Jude (a.k.a. Boot) drew his own name out of the box for the win. Despite offering him bribes for booze money, and threatening to beat him up after the party, he would not part with his precious winnings. One of these days I will just cave in and buy some of Lola's stuff. It is so amazing!

The rest of the weekend was spent by having supper at a very quaint Greek restaurant on Portage with friends Rick and Lori. Their homemade spaghetti was delicious and only $8.99. Although there was some kafuffle with our tickets at the theatre that evening, and we were sadly unable to see Spiderman II or Farenheit 9/11 due to sell-outs, we were happy to watch Shrek II for the second time with them. It's fantastic, if you haven't already seen it. The movie watching weekend continued for me Sunday afternoon when I watched Amélie on T.V. I have seen it countless times now, and I enjoy it each and every time. In the evening we watched Return of the King for the third time together with my mom and brother, which was very relaxing... however, once again reminded me that I don't much like watching movies at my parent's place. There is always a lot of talking and noise, however, the company is always appreciated.

Tonight we are off to the city yet again to celebrate my dear Aunt Peggy's 50th birthday. It should be a good time, as Erhardt gatherings tend to be loud and full of hearty laughter.

I'm tired of these boring posts with no photos. I have been unofficially shopping for a digital camera, but I feel a little guilty buying one right now after having spent a lot of money with all our home renos. I guess I could just go out and buy a really cheap one, but I figure if I'm putting the money out anyway I may as well buy something with some quality. Maybe Ryan and I will have to buy one as an Anniversary gift.

Today is Canada Day, but we are open here at Country Graphics so that we can take tomorrow off instead. It's kind of nice, because since everyone else is closed, it's really quiet here and we can work almost completely uninterupted. I am looking forward to the long weekend - and I will hopefully get some sun. My already naturally pale skin could really use a little UV.

Yesterday, Ryan and I brought home a new addition to our family. "Sony" will hopefully provide us with many years of laughter and entertainment. I'm sure he will feel right at home.
