Action Packed Plett Life

Welcome to a day in the lives of our little Plett family...

Okay, call me a Blog-aholic, I don't care. I've decided to start a blog for the Rosenort Chamber of Commerce.

This week I discovered juices made by Bolthouse Farms. They brought them in to our dear old Co-op to try out, and they are fantastic. Made entirely with fruit, and no additives, they are incredibly healthy, and packed full of vitamins and minerals. If you can get your hands on them, give them a try. My faves are Berry Boost, and Strawberry Banana Smoothie.

My mom has been working very hard at developing her blogsite, and I think it's incredibly effective! I'm so proud of her for figuring out how to use it, and I'm really hoping that it will help her to gain exposure. She's been working on it everyday, and I think she's added some really great information. If you know anyone that would be interested in this type of thing, please point them in her direction.

A New Look

I think our site deserved a little face-lift. What do you think?

This is a blurry shot from the plane on my way home from P.R. I just love the colours, even though the photo is blurry.

I know a few of you faithful "Action-Packed" readers have asked where my trip report from Powell River is staying. It is not as though I have nothing to say about my trip out there, in fact, the probem is that I have too much to say about it. I also have a lot of emotions that are stirred when I think about my trip to Powell River, and even as I type I get rather choked up, but I'm going to try today.

There is something life changing about looking into the eyes of a child and seeing their pure admiration for you. I thought I was going to Powell River last week to see my new nephew, and to spend quality time with my sister-in-law, Ang. I was able to do both these things, but the most meaningful moments of my trip were the times I was able to spend with my niece Emily. She was a blast, and she possibly made me feel like I was the most important person in her life (barring her parents of course). Everywhere we went, she would point things out to show me. She could hardly wait to let me use her bed, and we camped out all week long. She would wake me up every morning, and even a couple of times in the middle of the night just to talk to me. We were late for her swimming lesson one day, and when I said I'd stay behind with the baby, she wouldn't hear of it. She just had to show me how well she could swim. She even invited friends over to see me! I don't think I could possibly love that little girl more. She made my world. I can only hope and pray that I will always be a person that is worthy of her admiration, and that my life will lead an acceptable path for her to follow. The day I left, we were driving to the airport, listening to Dido and the song "Don't Leave Home". As the song played on, Emily piped up from the backseat, "This is a good song for today because Heather is leaving home". I'm going to miss her so incredibly much.

My heart was touched today by a mature, single lady. Nettie Rose Kornelson used to teach Ryan in Kindergarten. She is such a sweet lady, and today she came to Country Graphics to bring Ryan and I a lovely rhubarb pie she had baked. She said she wanted to bless us as a young couple as we strive to travel the right path in life. I just had to give her a huge hug, it was so sweet.

Look who I got to hop onto the Blogger bandwagon! My mom!

Hi! I hope to get some Powell River trip pics up tomorrow. Love you all!

Hey! So here I am on my second-last day of my visit to Powell River. It's been so wonderful to see everyone. Highlights have been: seeing Thomas, playing with Emily and having a week-long sleepover, having coffee and chatting with Ang, enjoying the mountains and scenery of Powell River. I will definately be posting pictures as soon as I get back onto my computer at work. Ick. Back to work indeed. Oh well, I'm sure I will be distracted by being reunited with my hubby who I am truly missing a lot too. Talk to you all soon!

Wow! The day has finally come - I leave tomorrow for Powell River. I am thrilled, and yet I'm not completely enamoured with the idea of having to be up tomorrow morning at 4:00 a.m. I suppose it will all be worth - in fact - I know it will! I am of course also a little sad to leave my husband home alone for the first time since we've been married. I love travelling with him, and he offers a security that I will not have on my own. I do look forward to coming home to him after a week away, probably with a rekindled appreciation for his presence in my life. So that is the good part about leaving him. It's hard to imagine being in Powell River tomorrow before 1:00 p.m., but that is the plan, and I am sooooo looking forward to seeing everyone! Yay, just one more sleep.

And now, a monumental first time entry from Ryan...

Hi? Okay, since I am forced to participate in this charade of packed action, here are some thoughts that have been on my noggin.
Concrete Blonde should have been way more popular than they were. How could a band that writes and perform such stirring and meaningful songs go so unnoticed.
I have decided that "The Three Days of the Condor" (Robert Redford) is my favorite movie of all time. A spy movie involving no kung-fu or laser rifles, just a man on the run forced to outthink his would-be killers.
Stomp 442 by Anthrax should be purchased by every bloodsport franchise and force fed to their atheletes. It is compressed adrenaline, fuel for any act of senseless violence a person would ever want to undertake.
I like my wife's bum.
Hope no one is too disappointed, this may never happen again.

Just three more sleeps!

Ang is getting into the Blog mode! Yay! Her site is bluecoast.blogspot.com. Just five more sleeps until I can hold that little snuggle bun, and give Emmy a big hug!

This weekend was a good one. On Friday, my bro Matt came for supper, and then Ryan headed off to Morris to watch hockey and I settled in to watch a movie. I saw "Cellular". It was pretty good, I enjoyed it.

Saturday was the perfect day for a nice sleep in, and then Ryan headed off to coach his guys in Oak Bluff. I spent the afternon puttering around the house. In the late afternoon I headed out to the city with Terrilee, and we went in to Giselle's for a fabulous massage. It was fantastic, and care of our wonderful husbands who had given us gift certificates. After the massage we met up with the boys at Moxies, and had a great supper. Then it was a dash for the Canadian Mennonite University where Angelo was having his film, "On a Sunday" premier. It was super nice to see him, and the film was great. We parted ways with the Friesen's at that point, as they had to go home and put baby to bed. The rest of the Eidse gang, and some other friends, went out to Buccacino's to celebrate the movie premier. It was really nice to talk to Angelo, and catch up with some other's as well. Silly me, I forgot to take the camera with me - so I have no good shots from the weekend at all.

On Sunday we had church at the arena, with lunch to follow, and then free time on the ice as well as table games and activities. We stuck around most of the afternoon, spending more time with Terril, Brent and Emery and other friends. Ryan got into a great game of Krokano with H.R. Friesen (Brent's grandpa) and a couple of young boys from his hockey team. Terril and I watched the activities from a far, and I spent some quality time with a smiling and content Emery. In the evening, Ryan and I made lasagna together (yes, he is letting me in on the secret process of preparation of the "noodle cake"). Matt joined us again for supper, and watching the Super Bowl.

I'd have to say that this weekend made me feel entirely content and happy with my current position in life. I felt fulfilled and blessed, and above all, happy to be alive and able to enjoy all of the wonderful people in my life. That feeling of "life is good" is amazing, especially when I can look at it from the perspective of someone who knows that life in other areas right now is not so good.

I went to my doctor today to get the results from my ultrasound, and for a second opinion on my leg issue. The results of the test were of no great help, but after a lengthly question and answer period, the doctor told me she is quite sure I have Parvovirus. Similar to a cold, it can be acquired through the air, and does not necessarily portray any immediate symptoms. In babies, this virus is known as Slapped-cheek disease, but the symptoms in adults are very different. It is very nice to know that what is happening in my body is not doing any permanent damage. Unfortunately, she says it could take up to eight weeks for the virus to dissipate. This means several more weeks on Advil, and resting the legs as much as possible. I feel a lot better having an answer, and that alone will probably help me feel better in a long run. Thanks to those who called/emailed with encouraging words and advice.

Here's a neat shot of a Rosehip completely encased in ice. The very warm weather turning to cold made for some interesting ice formations. Also, a picture of the massive bubble of water in our bedroom ceiling, and the drip-dry process.

So, what can I tell ya? The weather here has been beautiful, in my opinion. Ryan isn't too thrilled about the messy roads.

Of course, neither of us are thrilled about the leak that began in our bedroom ceiling once the warm weather hit either. It happened last spring as well, where we noticed that there was a bubbly-looking line forming across our newly-repaired and painted bedroom ceiling. At the time, I think we looked for a cause with little success, and let the problem run it's course without any more trouble. This time however, it's different. The night before last the bubble in the ceiling expanded to an incredible 15" long by 9" wide balloon of water, hanging ever so precariously above the bed. We are very impressed with the Behr paint that held this thing for so long, but we decided it was time to take action. So, we climbed up there and punched the cyst and let it drip-dry all night long. Then we had my brother come down to scrape some of the snow and ice off the roof, and we hope that the weather will get cold enough that we won't have to worry about this problem again until spring. Ah, the joys of home ownership. Looks like we have another project ahead of us!

They say bad things happen in threes, right? Well, first it was my knees, then Ryan's knee, and now the ceiling - so we're not due again for awhile. We hope.
