Action Packed Plett Life

Welcome to a day in the lives of our little Plett family...

What a great weekend we had! It started out on Friday evening when we joined a bunch of our city friends at a Legion for the evening. It was hilarious! We were definately the minority in that place, with about 80% of the population being people over 70. The evening started with a meat draw. Yes, a meat draw. Tickets could be purchased for one of four draws, each with about 6 or 7 packages of fresh meat up for grabs. This was hysterical - but no one from our table won anything. We heckled the people that were winning, and it was all quite funny. They also had a 50/50 draw, and another draw for a basket of all types of Irish liquors. Some of us played shuffle board, but mostly we just sat around and chatted. Ryan's old friend Tanya showed up as well, because she is friends with a girl from that group. Small world! Later in the evening we got to hear the musical stylings of an old-timer band called the Classix (see pics below). Those old folks could really dance! Wow! They polka'd and waltzed the night away. One particular couple had some of us nearly in tears. The wife could hardly walk anymore, with out her cane, and sat at a table crocheting. When the music started, her husband helped her to the dance floor - and away they went! She could still dance! It was so beautiful to watch them, and they were really, really good dancers too. People kept coming up to them to tell them what a joy they were to watch. Totally heart-warming.

Saturday was really pretty uneventful. I did a litte house cleaning, but mostly we just hung out at home. In the evening we watched "Good Night, and Good Luck". For me it was a little slow, and boring. Guess I'm not that into history and politics.

On Sunday I taught Sunday School in the morning - and we combined three classes, so I had about 10 kids. That was great! I really enjoyed the group. Church was excellent too - good worship, and a great guest speaker. We had lunch at Wilson's Grill in Morris with my parents, and then went back to their place to play a few rounds of Texas Hold 'Em. I won! Yahoo! We headed home just in time to change, and get picked up by Ryan's parents for supper at Bailey's in Winnipeg. It was an awesome supper! I had Alaskan King Crab legs, and they were amazing! I've never had better. After supper we went to the Concert Hall to see the Rusalka (Ukrainian) Dancers. They were fantastic! The upbeat music and incredible dance moves were great entertainment.

    Sounds like a great weekend!

Is Legion a location or an event?

Erin - the Legion is a hall that is owned and operated by Veteran Soldiers. I'm sure there's more to it than that, but I come from a Pacifist background, so I am somewhat ill-informed.

Erin - my husband just informed me that a Canadian Legion is the same as a U.S. VFW.

Ang - the Legion was some of the guy's idea. They had gone there a few times with their parents and enjoyed it.
