Action Packed Plett Life

Welcome to a day in the lives of our little Plett family...

See, no turtleneck.

Okay, so here are some good things that have happened today:

  • I forgot to mention that last night I had a BLAST chatting on the webcam with Steve and Emily. They just got theirs hooked up, and now we can see and talk to each other online. So awesome! Of course, most of the time all we could see was Emily's nostrils and tonsils.
  • Robin said I was having a good hair day. (See picture above)
  • I just designed a great CD cover today. I think it looks cool. See it in PDF format here.
  • I have sweet & sour pork ribs in the slow cooker.
  • Last night I made amazing apple crisp.
  • I made Krystle's day by posting my edited version of the family pic seen below.
  • I got a new Liquid Paper today, and it came with an awesome free pen. So, now I'm not only able to correct mistakes without tearing the paper apart, I can also rewrite them in with my new pen.
  • This is one of those times where I am laughing at myself while I type this.
  • Robin laughed when I emailed her the following:

Is this better Ang?

It's okay to not be okay. I'm taking my friend Rebekah up on this today, and so today I'm just not going to be okay. It seems like it's starting out to be one of those weeks that you just want to go away. The list of my compaints is long, and there is nothing more annoying than a complainer. However, as this is my space to do as I please, I'm going to spend some time complaining. Here is my list:

  • I have a nasty cold, with a cough that keeps me up at night.
  • The only thing that helps the cough is tea, and since I don't have decaf tea, it keeps me up even more.
  • My dad leaves on vacation in a week, which means all of his work falls on my shoulders. (He has to pick up my slack when I'm away too, so I'm not really complaining so much as I am just not looking foward to it).
  • Ryan is stressed about work, which stresses me out, because I can't help him.
  • I miss our baby (I don't want a pity-party here, I'm just saying).
  • There is a hideous wind out today, and it messed up my hair this morning.
  • There are other situations that are stressing me out, but I'm not going to get into all of them because that would just be too much negativity all in one place at one time. But needless to say, the light at the end of the tunnel is dull today.
  • Oh, and I almost forgot, the kitten jumped on my head while I was in bed this morning. But she sort of missed, and clawed at my ear for support as she continued her climb. Ow.

Thankfully, when things are this crappy, you can be sure that things will soon improve! If you've stuck with me this far, thanks. I appreciate your loyal readership - even when I have nothing but bad news. Hey, on the bright side, I'm not wearing a turtleneck today!

I love this picture that my sister-in-law Ang just posted of Ryan and I on her blog. By the way, have you noticed that in the last three photos I've posted of myself I am wearing a turtleneck. I have a problem. Maybe it's time I get nominated to be on "What Not to Wear".

My cool new ring.

It's just way too fun playing with the webcam.

Happy Thursday everyone!

For those who haven't visited this blog yet - enjoy! By the way, what's your secret?

Playing with my new webcam.

This one is posted especially for Emily.

The whole family (plus two new members, we don't know who they are...).

Our last full day in Honolulu ended up being a little less eventful than we thought. After a long day at the Polynesian Cultural Center the day before, we decided to spend our last day of vacation just relaxing. So, we stayed at the hotel most of the day - just reading, and soaking up the sun. I went on a jaunt into the big city to do a little more shopping, and then headed in home in time for supper to celebrate Tommy's first birthday. We headed to Vancouver on a 5 1/2 hour flight on Saturday, stayed overnight in Vancouver, and then made the short flight home to Manitoba on Sunday afternoon.

It is good to be home, but it is hard to get back to life on a schedule - and a four hour time difference. Hopefully we will get back into the full swing of things shortly.

Steve and Em run around a Banyan Tree.

The Sheraton Hotel was next door to us.

Tommy's hand in the sand.

The Halekulani Hotel in Honolulu.

"Is it a real turtle?" "I don't know, it's not moving..." "It blinked!" "Did it?" "I think it did!"

Emmy loved these guys. They were huge!

Uncle and Em enjoy ice cream at the Zoo.

This tree really grows and looks like this - it's called... can you guess... a Painted Tree.

Hawaii's State flower - the hibiscus.

Ryan standing outside the huge aquarium on one of the main streets in Honolulu. Inside the tank was a walkway called the "Tube".

An Island along the way to the Polynesian Cultural Center. The island is named after the hats that the Asians wear in the rice fields - but Ryan thought it should be called "Nipple Island".

The Canoe show.

Emily and my Tahitian tattoos.

The Tongan drum show.

Luau dinner - with Taro bread (purple bread), Kahlua pork (cooked underground), fish, corn, salad, steamed rice, salmon and fruit.

We went on a canoe ride at the PCC.

This drummer was going so hard, I couldn't get a clear picture.

The start of the big evening show at the Polynesian Cultural Center. The show is called Horizons.

Tommy is tuckered out after dinner.

Watching the show - even Tommy was in awe. Our seats were front and center!

These ladies could really shake their hips! Hokey-dina!

Fire dancers at the Luau.

Fire dancers.

The International Market Place. This place was probably about 4-6 blocks in size. You could easily get lost, so lines were painted on the street so you could find your way out!

Emily "painting" on Uncle's computer.

The view from in the "Tube".

Tommy turned 1 on January 13th!

Wow - our new Hotel on Oahu, in Honolulu is great. It is much smaller than the Kea Lani, but it has an amazing view of Waikiki. Honolulu is vastly different from Wailea where we were before. This is a hustling, bustling city - with big freeways, and tonnes and tonnes of tourists - 95% being Asian. I actually thought maybe we'd landed in Hong Kong or Tokyo or something.

Our welcome gift to the Halekulani.
The view - WOW!

The downward view of the pool.

Reading on the "lanai". My new passion - Dean Koontz novels. I can't put them down! This read "False Memory".

Tommy in his birthday "suit" from
Uncle and Auntie.

Uncle and Tommy on the lawn.

Orchids like this one are used everywhere:
in drinks, on the bed, stuck into folded towels...

Makawao still life.

Just waiting for Ryan in the lobby...

Emmy on Azlan - from Narnia.

Bed jumping with Auntie.

Getting crazy with Uncle.

Doing blow pens with Emily.
