Scam?

A few weeks ago I got a call from a company doing a survey. James was napping, and I wasn't doing anything important, so I did the survey. It was pretty long. There were a number of questions about what types of technology we owned, which ones I had heard of, etc. They also asked about what DVDs we owned, and if I knew which ones were on the market. They also asked about what brands of certain household appliances we had. No biggy.

A couple of days ago a woman named "Penny" calls, and tells me she is from that same company. She thanks me for taking the time to do their survey, and she tells me she wants to give me a gift worth $150 to thank me. She tells me they have a rep in the area and he/she will come deliver the gift. It was a bad time for me, so I asked her what the deal was - what kind of strings are attached here, etc. She seemed taken aback, and just said "Well ma'am, it's just a free gift - that's all!". I asked her if the rep could come a different day, at a different time. She agreed.

Yesterday evening "Penny" called again, and asked if 6:00pm was a suitable time for the rep to come down. I asked how long the visit would be, and Penny said it would take about 20-30 minutes as the rep would be showing us the new MG2 vacuum system. (Oh joy.) She said it was important that my husband be home - which he wasn't. I told her when he might be home, and she said they would call back. Okay. So a while later a man calls, and asks if Ryan is home yet. I said no, but that he would be shortly. The man says it is fine, and gets directions to our house, and a description of the house. He then said that he would send the rep to another location, and then to our place - but that he would call again to ensure that Ryan was home. They never called back. No one showed up. Nilch. Nada. AFTER ALL THAT?!

I think it's a scam, and that these people are now aware of almost everything of value in our home. They know where we live, and what our house looks like. I think they are going to rob us! Seriously, this freaks me out! What bugs me most is that I feel like I can't trust anyone - and maybe that is a lesson I needed to learn, but I just always assume the best of people. That's just who I am. In any case, if our house gets robbed I am going to have to track down these E-Excel folks, and sue them. Can't believe I was so dumb... I'm never doing another phone survey - EVER. I suppose this is the thanks I get for just trying to be helpful and nice.

A Tale about a Toot

Once upon a time, on a rainy Saturday afternoon, while their infant son was napping, a husband and wife peacefully sat on their futon watching Tournament Poker to kill time. Rudely interrupting the serenity, the husband lets out a powerful burst of flatulent air. Without a word, the wife gets up to leave the room.

What should the husband say?

a.) "Excuse me, please!"

b.) "Pardon me."

c.) "Oh! Sorry!"

d.) "Hey - it won't stink!"

In this particular circumstance, the husband says confidently, "Hey - it won't stink". Wife bursts out laughing, and still leaves the room.

So, Ryan comes in from doing yard work this afternoon and says, "I've got to show you the weird dead things around the yard". Sure! So, we all follow him out the door for the "dead things" tour. They started from kinda sad to really creepy. See following pictures...

Who Can Help?

Hello friends! I know, I know - Action Packed gets almost entirely neglected these days. I apologize. But lets face it - my full time job is now Motherhood, and so I have a lot more to say about that than I do about the (formerly) Action Packed Pletts. There is not a lot of Action around here these days, and if there is, it all revolves around James! But we don't mind that!

Ryan and I finally got out to see "007: Casino Royale" two weeks ago, on Saturday. It was the first time we had been out to see a movie since James was born, and it felt SO good. I enjoyed the movie a lot, while Ryan found it to be almost a little boring - we both appreciated the fact that the action parts of the movie were a little more "real" than some of the other ones.

Ryan is still working hard at trying to make Golden Glove work. It has been a long process it seems, and it still feels like it is a slow start. It is somewhat disheartening when he leaves the house early in the morning, and only gets home around 6:30-7:00pm - to spend a few brief moments with James before he goes to bed. We basically live for weekends, when Ryan can finally have some quality daddy time, and I can get a little bit of a mommy break. Last weekend he took James out to arena to watch some of the Regals Cup.

Ryan wanted me to post about these Pork Cracklins that he tried to eat the other day. I don't really know the whole story, but I think his parents brought these back from New Orleans a LONG time ago. Well, Ryan decided to try them - despite the long expired date on the bag. Needless to say, I believe they made him feel quite ill. The type below the words "Pork Cracklins" reads "Fried Out Pork Fat With Attached Skin". Mmmmmmmmm...

It seems that Spring has sprung, which is encouraging. Of course, it is the cloudy, cold and mucky kind of Spring - but Summer is on it's way! Yay! I can hardly wait to get out into the yard, take James on stroller rides, and the like. Good times! It will also be fun to get back into the Plett's pool this summer. Seems like it's been a long time!

Not much else to report really. Things here are good. We've all come down with a cold, so we are a little bit of a sniffly bunch right now, but nothing serious. We love you all, and hope that we can sit down soon and really have a good heart-to-heart.

This week at the Action Packed Plett's... was pretty boring actually! The weather has been super cold (-44 with the windchill today), so James and I just stayed in. We did, however, brave a quick trip to Superstore yesterday. I picked up a few things for James, particularly a cool mist humidifier for his very dry bedroom, and some 3-6 month sleepers as he is growing like a weed! We don't have anything really planned for this weekend either - just relaxing at home. Ryan is currently reading, James is napping, and here I am taking a moment to update Action Packed. We are enjoying parenthood immensely. James makes that fairly easy, as he is an easy and content little dude - mostly happy and smiling. We'll probably end up over at Ryan's parents place to watch the Super Bowl tomorrow, and then we are on to another week with very little in the plans.

I just want to post about how proud of my mom I am! She has recently put up some of her work on Art.com, and I really hope she sells well there. She is also gearing up for a couple of shows this fall, including Scattered Seeds and the annual Manitoba Art Expo.

She has also launched her new website, in addition to her blog.

Way to go mom! I hope you do well, and I am SO proud of you! I think she is on her way to a very successful year in art. Not only that, but in a few weeks she will be a first-time grandma! I can't wait until she pulls out all her art gear to teach her grandchildren.

Tomorrow, September 13th, Ryan and I will celebrate our third wedding anniversary. It seems like it was just yesterday to me, those three years have flown by so fast. The day we got married started out cloudy and rainy, but by the time we were ready to go and on our way to Winnipeg it had cleared up - and the sun shon brightly. I'll never forget how excited I was, and nervous. I have rarely been nervous in my life - but I just wanted the day to be perfect, and I was concerned that I might have forgotten something. My nerves were calmed the moment I got to see Ryan - in the lobby at the Radisson Hotel. We had so much fun that morning taking pictures all over Winnipeg with our photographer Ella, and her assistant Eve, and all of our closest friends and family. What a great day! The church was beautiful, and everything just couldn't have gone better. Everything was set up perfectly, the service was wonderful and thought-provoking, the music honoured God in our celebration, and all of the people there made it the most memorable moment of my life. I will never forget holding Ryan's hands and saying our vows. We had a portion of our own written vows, and then repeated vows. I can clearly remember having a hard time looking into his eyes when I said my vows because I could see tears glistening in them, and I knew that if he cried he would make me cry! I loved him so much at that moment - it was indescribable. I'll also never forget our first kiss as a married couple. After our kiss, Ryan held our faces close together and we just couldn't stop smiling at each other. To top off the day, we had a fabulous reception at the Radisson - I think everyone had a great time there. Our wedding day was truly one of the best days of my life. Since that day, we've had the good times and some bad, and have had to deal with some very hard things - but always we have come through it deeper in love than before, and with more respect for each other. Ryan, I love you. You make me so proud, and I adore you. Thank you for always helping me to see the bright side, for wiping my tears, and for making me laugh. I can't wait to see what our future brings - starting with seeing you as a daddy to our dear little baby. Where you walk in life, I will always walk with you. I love you! Happy third anniversary babe!

It also came time to remove the sandbox. The cats have been using it as their outdoor pee-place for almost two years. So, we shovelled out the infested sand, and stored the sandbox until we know where we want to set it up again.

Matt and I fell the crumbling and decrepid bird house yesterday. It gracefully fell to the ground, smashed into a couple of pieces, and then we burst into laughter because it looked so dramatic.

Woohoo! The Pletts are now operating at HIGH SPEED. Hopefully this will encourage me to post here a little more now. Usually after posting on my Motherhood blog I would be too impatient to try to update Action Packed as well. Now it's just a breeze, I'm much enjoying the new connection.

Summer here has been flying by at an unreasonably hasty rate. In many ways we have done a lot, but at the same time it doesn't feel like we've done much at all. We haven't done any travelling or camping trips (yet) this summer. This is due to Ryan's busy and hectic work schedule, and partially due to my current "fatso" condition (aka. pregnancy). I am always boiling hot, and with the summer we've had it has just been too hot to spend a lot of time outdoors. On the bright side, we haven't had to mow the lawn much, and we've made good use of our air conditioning investment from last summer.

We just enjoyed a very nice long weekend. On Friday we were at the Bomber game, and although it was a stinker of a game, the evening was beautiful. It was so nice to enjoy the outdoors. Saturday morning we slept in, and then enjoyed a leisurely breakfast, followed by more laziness. Once the sun was going down, we lit up the fire pit and sat around and talked until after midnight. Sunday was much the same. We had church in the morning, and then spent the afternoon relaxing at home. We drove to Morris with Terrilee, Brent and Emery for supper, and then spent the rest of the night around their fire pit - again, until well after midnight. It was nice to have the extra day of holidays too. Monday was a nice day to stay inside, and Ryan caught up on some work. Later in the afternoon his parents called to invite us to have supper with them on Corydon in Winnipeg, which turned into a party with my mom, dad and Matt. Matt was celebrating his final paper being finished, so he can graduate with his degree in Business Management and Marketing in October. We are really proud of him! Way to go bro!

Ryan and I were lounging out by the firepit last night when a most strange thing happened. The cat climbed up a tree during a game of tag with the kitten. This was a momentus accomplishment, because for the last few years we really didn't think he knew how to climb! But up he went, and Ryan ran to get the camera.

Hey there every one! I don't blame you if you have given up on "Action Packed". As you may recall from an earlier post, this is why I threatened to shut this blog down. However, I'm updating it now - so hopefully you'll come visit us here again.

Beautiful, beautiful rain! I woke up this morning to the miraculous sound of rain hitting my bedroom window. Yay! We have had at least two or three weeks without rain, and very high temperatures. Needless to say, we were due for some rain, and today it finally arrived. As I sit here in the office upstairs, I can hear the occasional rumble of thunder. It's lovely.

Ryan and I have been keeping pretty busy lately. He has been steadily working with his business stuff, usually getting home close to 7:00pm, having a quick supper, and then getting straight back into work stuff. I have started working from home now, and I really enjoy it. I can work at my own pace, and from the comfort of my own home - surrounded by attention-needy cats! Our plans for the summer are sort of dictated by Ryan's work situation, so we have not made any plans. We had hoped to make it out to B.C., but even that looks like it will have to wait for another year. I'd still love to do some camping, and at least one special trip for just him and I to enjoy before we meet baby.

Things with baby are going great. I feel good, and am enjoying the pregnancy experience. I just hit the official 5 month mark - so just 4 more months to go! Yippee! We are due November 15th.

Our next few weekends are already booking up. This weekend we have a wedding to go to, and next weekend there is a big pool party shindig at Ryan's parents place. Somewhere in there I'd love to have a pool party with our friends.

Anyway, this hasn't been a very "action packed" post, but just giving you an update. Otherwise, life is good. We are thankful for our central a/c and we are looking forward to the arrival of the baby.

Steve, Ang, Emily and Thomas arrived in Manitoba on June 15th. It was an awesome week with them, and we had a blast! It was so great to spend some quality time with the kids, and we will miss having them around. They are just a bright sunbeam in our lives. By the end the week Tommy had tried to master saying Auntie, which really sounded like "An-waa". It was so sweet! It was also fantastic to spend time with my prego (and beautiful to boot) sister-in-law Ang. I just love laughing with her, and I hate to see her go. It will be a week to remember. Thanks guys for making your trip out here so much fun for us. We love you dearly.

Life is swell at the Plett household these days. Ryan is still fairly occupied with his business. The weather has been gorgeous, so I have been spending my days working on the yard.

Our garage sale on Saturday was great, and we had a good time. We made a few bucks too, which was nice. Then, on Saturday evening Ryan and I got to hang out with Tanis Hiebert and her girls. We had a great time. Ivy is super smart, and I just can't get over her amazing vocabulary. She is going into Kindergarten this fall, so I was asking her some questions about that. Tanis told her to describe her classroom, so Ivy asked me "Do you want to hear about the coolest features, or the whole room?". I opted for the "coolest features".

Sunday was another lovely day. We had our church picnic, and then in the afternoon I got to meet a bunch of Blogger pals! It was a great reunion, and totally awesome to meet some girls that I have been getting to know via blogs. Janelle, Kamryn and Carissa were out from Saskatchewan, and Wenona came in from Schanzenfeld, Manitoba. I actually ended up getting very emotional about meeting them, and walked up Amber's driveway in tears! How embarassing!

This week Steve, Ang and the kiddo's arrive! Woohoo! I can hardly wait to give them all a big hug!

We had kind of a scare with our kitten DJ yesterday. In the morning, both cats are let in from their night of galavanting to eat, and usually they go to sleep for the rest of the day. Yesterday morning, however, just DJ returned from her night out - ate a little bit, and then went to lie down. It was very strange for Puss not to be there, pushing his way into the door to get to the food dishes first. He hadn't showed up when we both left for work. I got home for lunch at 11:30, and thankfully Puss had finally made his way home. I let him into the house, but he passed right by his food and laid down in the middle of the kitchen floor - this is astonishingly strange behaviour for him. Both cats seemed to be really lethargic. Usually when I'm home for lunch, they both "talk" to me and greet me at the door, and follow me around the house. The kitten was laying on the floor, almost totally out of it, and drooling. I picked her up, and she was totally dead-weight in my arms. She was breathing really fast, and I put her back on the floor. She tried to walk, but just wobbled and swayed, and slowly slumped to the floor. I called Ryan, and he told me to call the vet - so I did. In the meantime, the kitten made her way to the door in a drunken side-step so I let her out. She got over the threshold, but just slumped to the ground again and let out on little terd. Poor thing! I hate it that they can't tell you what's wrong! At that point, Puss seemed to be acting sort of normal again, so I decided not to worry about him. The vet called back, and said we should bring DJ in right away. I was working, so I couldn't go, but my brother Matt was around so he took her in. An hour later the vet called to ask if they could do X-rays, and I agreed. When they called again, she said that the kitten had one enlarged kidney, and so they felt they should do blood work to find out if it was her kidneys. I didn't know what to do, so I told her to call Ryan and ask him. He said do it, so they did the blood work. Matt then brought her home while we waited for the results, and Ryan came home early so they came over to Country Graphics with the kitten. She was pale. How can you tell if a cat is pale? I wondered the same thing when the vet said it. DJ's nose is usually bright pink, as is her mouth and tongue. She was WHITE, like a sheet. Even her little nose blended into her white fur. She was totally out of it - barely even looking around. So, we took her home and babied her. The vet finally called back, and said they think she has a blood parasite - which was causing her body to fight off her red blood cells. She was totally anemic, with only 1/2 the blood cell count she should have! So, off Ryan went to the vet to get meds. Now DJ is on steroids, to stop her body from fighting her blood cells, and antibiotics to fight the parasite. This morning she already seemed a little better,a and actually "talked" to us. She ate and drank, plus we gave her some treats of milk and ham! For now, it looks like Puss is doing alright. He seems maybe slightly under-the-weather, but we're monintoring him. Hopefully our little kitty will make a full recovery soon.

What a nice weekend we just had. It would have been even nicer if the sun would have showed it's face, but even with the clouds and cold, it was good.

On Friday evening we just vegged out at home and relaxed. Then, on Saturday morning I got up early to go into work to make some decals for our friends. They just started up their new web-business, id collectables. So I made some decals for their car. I then had a lovely breakfast with my mom at the Café, and enjoyed some much needed "mom talk" with her. After breakfast, I did laundry, made a fruit salad and puttered around the house. We left for the city around 2:30, and headed to the mall. First stop, Thyme Maternity for some t-shirts and a dressy outfit. Ryan and I had a lot of fun there - laughing at how huge I look in some of those maternity clothes. It was pretty funny! More and more the reality of this pregnancy is hitting us. It feels somewhat surreal sometimes. Almost like we are just pretending. Anyway, after finding some clothes that fit, we wandered around a little more and then headed out to our friends' Rick & Lori's. They are off to Europe at the end of the week, so they had a little farewell BBQ at their place. The weather held up well enough for a rousing game of street hockey to take place. There were a bunch of adults and lots of cute kids running wildly in the streets. One of our friends' sons laughed hysterically for almost a full half-hour as he watched his dad play goaltender. The supper and the company were great, and we had a fabulous time - even getting to head home relatively early.

On Sunday we both ended up getting up early, as I discovered a frog in the basement. Likely it was brought in by one of the cats. Anyway, I had to show Ryan so I got him up and as he went to remove it, it started hopping all over the place - trying to get under sofas, etc. It was pretty hilarious! He was finally able to catch it, and threw it outside - only minutes later to be devoured by one of the cats. Seeing as we were already up, we went to a Mother's Day Tea at the church. We actually had a few people offer us condolence, as Mother's Day can be a tough time for moms who have lost babies. It was nice to be able to tell them that we were in fact celebrating Mother's Day, because we were once again expecting. Church was pretty good, and we got to sit with Terrilee and Emery until he got too ancy, and headed to the play room. After church we had a quiet lunch together, and napped. A great way to spend a Sunday afternoon! We then got decked out to go to supper with Frank and Jeanne, my parents, my brother and my grandma at Tavern in the Park. It was a delicious meal, as always.

That pretty much sums up our weekend. I would write a very long ode to my mothers, but I'm on an emotional edge today (a happy emotional edge), so I'm not going to attempt that right now. But I love both my mom, and my mother-in-law very, very much!

So I've been contemplating just shutting down Action Packed. I know, it's sort of sad - but really the traffic on this site has been kind of lame, and maybe I'm just getting bored. I also realize that once I'm not at work (and on high speed internet) all day, my posts here will probably really go down hill. So, I'm debating just turning my full attention to keep Motherhood Quest up and running, and letting this baby go. Action Packed just ain't getting that much action! Even typing this sort of depresses me, because I love posting pics here - but I don't know that anyone is really that interested anymore? Maybe we need to have a kid in order for the traffic to pick up here. Well, we're WORKING on it, okay?! Anyway, don't be surprised if the link to Action Packed goes down. I'll try to give you some notice though, and for now it's all just in contemplation mode - no serious chance of being offline just yet.
